2. Cleaning of the flute tubes is done without buffing and use of hazardous chemical to maintain richness of the material. Dents will be removed if there are any, including those on the head and foot joints.
3. Head joint will be checked for hermetic sealing of the cork stopper and returned proper position. Replacement of the head cork will be done if necessary. The solder joint around the lip plate is checked for leaks and corrected if detected.
4. Tenon joints are checked for accurate fit. Corrections are done as necessary. Soldered toneholes are checked for leaks and re-soldered if necessary.
5. Pads are changed using quality double skin yellow pads which are precisely fitted in the cups. The pads are painstakingly and individually leveled using the time-honored technique of paper-shimming, reserved only for the best flutes. This is the most difficult and time consuming part of the overhaul. If done well, even a student flute will sing and respond to the player's whim. Done poorly, the most expensive artist flute will be useless. We are experts in installing pads. Be assured that you are getting the best padwork if done by us.
Straubinger Pads™ may be installed if requested (advisable only for professional model flutes). We ensure that pads are accurately sealed using correct size of pads and thickness of shims. We do not seat pads by use of heavy clamps or rubber-banding. All our pads are seated using the slightest key pressure.
6. Alignment Proper key heights will be made. Bumpers of all keys will be replaced and changed using synthetic cork material. This is proven more durable and similarly noiseless and as reliable as traditional pressed felt. Keys are then regulated to form a seamlessly smooth key action. Springs will be balanced for proper tension, and as the player requires.
7. Your freshly overhauled flute will then be play-checked by a professional flutist before being returned to you. Your flute should be restored to its former glory, looking and sounding like new, perhaps better. A break-in period is not required after an overhaul by Candelaria Winds. The flute will be recital ready when it returns to you. |
